And their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
Good morning. And their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. There is debate about which city this is. Of course Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem; so that is where one would think it would be. But it says mystically that it is called Sodom and Egypt, which does not seem to fit Jerusalem. Others say that it is referring to Rome (which would seem to be a bit of a stretch) since the Roman government was the one that actually crucified Jesus. Seemingly going along with the idea that this was Rome is the fact that in chapter 17, it talks about the beast “having seven heads, which are seven mountains on which the woman sits”. Since Rome was built on seven hills, they say that’s what the seven mountains represent. So do these things add up to it being Rome, or was it the fact that at one time there was extreme anti-Catholicism in the rest of the Christian denominations, and they were wanting it to be Rome? Father thank You that You are in charge of everything. Help us to trust You that everything will turn out all right.
