Peter has told how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the Gentiles a people for His name
Good morning. After all the talking that has been going on, James (Jesus‘ brother) finally answers. Peter has told how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the Gentiles a people for His name. He then quotes a scripture that confirms it. Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath. As I said before, I don’t know how many years it had been since the day of Pentecost. I don’t know if this is before or after James wrote his book. If after, it may be why the book of James seems to contradict what is written by Paul; i.e. it is by faith plus works that we are justified. It is possible that he had not come to this revelation before he wrote the book - that he thought one must obey the law of Moses to be saved. The apostles and elders along with the whole church agreed that this was good. They chose men to go with Paul and Barnabas back to Antioch with a letter stating what James had just said. One of those who went with them was Silas. As you know, he goes with Paul on a missionary journey later. Father thank You that Your Way is the best way. We may not understand it today, but we will be thankful for it later on.
