All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him
Good morning. Then Jesus rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I praise You, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these
things from the wise and intelligent and
have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way
was well-pleasing in Your sight. All
things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no
one knows who the Son is except
the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and
anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal
Him.” Thankfully we were chosen to have these things
revealed to us, and to know the Son and
the Father. As we have seen in Matthew and Mark, a lawyer
wants to test Jesus by asking what
he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus puts it back
onto him. “What is written in the law?
How does it read to you?” By loving the Lord your God
completely and your neighbor as
yourself. Correctamundo (though I seriously doubt that
Jesus used that exact word) do this
and you will live. Now wait a minute! I was wanting to
have some kind of an argument that I
could win. And just who is my neighbor? So Jesus tells
him the parable of the good Samaritan.
The only part we are going to look at today was the one
where Jesus said a man was going
down from Jerusalem to Jericho. It is possible that he
intended to go to Jericho; but perhaps
he was just trying to avoid going through Samaria as you
recall. My Bible says that it is the
distance of 17 miles and a descent from about 2500 feet
above sea level to about 800 feet
below sea level. That is a drop of 6/10 of a mile. The
only reason I am mentioning this is to
relate it to the book of John and Lazarus, only in the
reverse direction. Remember that Jesus
waited two days to go to Lazarus, but was four days too
late. Once He crossed the Jordan
River, He only had the 17 miles to go – but they were up
mountain. It should not have taken
Him four days – hence, the blind man and Zaccheus. Father
thank You that You are helping
us to do whatever is necessary to succeed in life.
