And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

Good morning. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. And so all, whether just the 12 apostles or the 120, were filled with the Holy Spirit. There are some Pentecostal denominations that believe that not only here, but also today, is when a person receives the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I believe they received it in John chapter 20. One thing is for certain – whenever in the book of Acts you see that someone is filled with the Holy Spirit, immediately thereafter they say something – here they spoke in tongues. Were these known or unknown tongues? It does not say. We do know that shortly they would be speaking in known tongues. Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred (The sound of a violent rushing wind), The crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. Most, if not all, were bilingual. They spoke the language where they grew up; but they also spoke a common language, probably Aramaic. They were amazed and astonished, saying, why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? They then mention different places from which the crowd were born. We hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God. Father thank You that we are getting the rain that we need.
