The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them, being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

 Good morning. Not everyone was happy because of the lame man getting healed, especially since they were talking about Jesus and the resurrection. As they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees (The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection – that was why they were so sad, you see) came up to them, being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. Isn’t that the first amendment to the constitution – oh that’s right, they didn’t have a constitution. By the way, the first amendment was not written to protect speech you agree with – it was to protect speech you disagree with. And they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the message believed; and the number of the men came to be about 5000. That’s even more than on the day of Pentecost, which was about 3000. On the next day, their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and all who were of high priestly descent. Had he gone into his father’s “line of work“ John the Baptist may have been one of them. His father was burning incense on the day the angel appeared to him, and only those who were descended from Aaron the high priest could to do that. His mother was also referred to as a daughter of Aaron; so she was of high priestly descent. That would mean that John was also of high priestly descent. Peter and John were not members of the “club“, so whatever they said or did was look upon with skepticism. It’s just like political groups today. Father continue to go with the reader and his/her daughter. Work everything out in Your perfect time and order.

There’s a lot of this going on in revelation. And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them. The first sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up. The fraction 1/3 shows that it was significant, but not over the entire earth. Why are you timid, you men of little faith?

  Good morning. Remember that Jesus had given orders that they should depart to the other side (of the lake). While Jesus was asleep in the boat, there arose a great storm, so that the boat was covered with the waves. This was no afternoon shower; it was one of those “make the palm trees bend over and touch the ground" kind of storms. And Jesus just slept through it! He had confidence in His Father to protect Him. The disciples, however, were not confident. They were focusing on the circumstances and not on the word Jesus had given them. They awoke Jesus saying, “save us, Lord; we are perishing!” Jesus had told them to go to the other side; so they should've been confident that they would make it. They did not even think about all of the miracles that Jesus had just finished doing. But even if they had, they probably would've said “well that was one thing, this is something entirely different”. The same thing happens to us. God tells us to do something, and a storm arises....
