Good morning. Some prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them named Agabus began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world.
And this took place in the reign of Claudius. We will hear of Agabus again at the end of Acts. When God tells you something, you should act upon it. They didn’t sit around saying oh woe is us; we need to save up all of our money that we can to take care of ourselves when the famine comes. Instead, they collected money to send for the relief of the brethren living in Judea. They sent the collection with Barnabas and Saul to the elders in Jerusalem. Notice that Barnabas is mentioned first. There will come a time later when the order is reversed. Acts now talks about Herod the king. According to my Bible this is not the same Herod who participated in the crucifixion of Jesus. He is the grandson of the King Herod who put to death the babies in Bethlehem after Jesus was born. He had James the brother of John put to death with a sword. When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. It was during the days of unleavened bread – of which Passover was the beginning. He put Peter in prison with four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people. So Peter was kept in the prison, but prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God. Sorry Peter. We’re going to leave you in prison until tomorrow 😭 . Father thank You that You let us know when things are about to happen, so that we can prepare for them. Reveal the future for the reader so that he/she can prepare for what is to happen.

Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me

  Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later.   Good morning. So Peter just told them that basically they were responsible for the death of Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, brethren, what shall we do? Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. As we will see much later, it seems that at this point in time they believed that you could not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit without first being baptized in water. It appears that that idea did not change until chapter 10 after God baptized Cornelius and his family in the Holy Spirit before they were water baptized.
