Let your statement be, “yes, yes" or “no, no”; and anything beyond these is of evil

Now Jesus says: you have heard “you shall not commit murder” and “whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court”. That makes sense – everyone can agree with that. But then: everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court. Whoa - wait a minute! I'm not so sure about that. ( He goes on from there). He says we are to be reconciled with our brother, especially before presenting our offering to God. If some part of your body makes you stumble, get rid of it. He did not mean that literally. Of course no part of your body can make you stumble. It's what's inside of you that makes you stumble. He talks about making vows. Let your statement be, “yes, yes" or “no, no”; and anything beyond these is of evil (He did not say is evil). When we say yes or no, that should be the end of it. That word alone should be good enough. People think that if they are more emphatic than a simple yes or no, that it will seem like they are more sincere about their statement. A lot of times this includes profanity. If we are a person of our word, a simple yes or no should be enough. Father thank You that You take care of all of Rani’s needs. Give her the strength encourage to be victorious every day.
