I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper/comforter, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
Good morning.. So Jesus has good news and bad news for the disciples. The bad news – He is going away. Good news – I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper/comforter, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. Of course that was not comforting to them. Most of them had known Jesus for three years, and no one could replace Him. But God had thought of everything. As we said before, if Jesus had stayed, He could only be in one place at one time. He could not have helped each individual to live the Christian life, as the Holy Spirit could. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Most of us do not know what it feels like to be an orphan – feeling like you don’t belong to anyone or anything. After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. In that day, you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. In a few hours Jesus would be crucified, and the world would no longer see Him. Then a few days later, the disciples would see Him again. It would no longer be theoretical that they too would live again. If Jesus rose from the dead, then it was a reality that they too would one day rise from the dead. Father thank You that You did not leave us on our own. Thank You that You gave us the Holy Spirit to be with and in us the rest of our lives
