Good morning. One of the
ways we can help God in guarding our hearts and our minds: whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy
of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. That is what we are supposed to
let our minds dwell on instead of all of the problems that we have. If you are
always thinking about the good, it makes it harder for your mind to think about
the bad. One lighted candle chases away the darkness. Then Paul tells them to
practice the things they have learned and received and heard and seen in him.
And the God of peace shall be with you. Again concentrate on the positive. Paul
then talks about having had a lot and having had a little. He could make it
either way. And then a verse that is a favorite of everyone: I can do all things
through Him who strengthens me. While in context it was talking about his
particular situation, it is true in general - we can do all things through
Christ Jesus who strengthens us. He then talks about all the wonderful gifts
they had given him. And because of that, another favorite verse: and my God
shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
In context it is talking about since they gave to him and supplied all of his
needs, God will supply all their needs. However it is true in general. And that
is the end of the book of Philippians. Father thank You that the reader lets his/her
mind dwell on all those wonderful things. And because of that, Your peace
guards his/her heart and her mind. He/she can do all things, and You will
supply all of his/her needs!
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church. Some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. I shall find ou...
