For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends
Good morning. Paul then puts down those “traveling evangelists“ who were bragging on themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are without understanding. It’s easy to excel when you measure yourself by yourself. We will not boast beyond our measure, but within the measure of the sphere which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you. He who boasts is to boast in the Lord. For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends. He is again referring to those evangelists who were boasting about their achievements. I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. We see too much of the human jealousy in our every day lives. Paul was not afraid of someone else taking “his church“ away from him, as someone might be afraid of someone else taking away their spouse. For I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. Father continue to show the reader what to do in the coming year.
