From Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before His throne

Good morning.… John, who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ even to all that he saw. So John saw all of what is about to follow. It was probably a vision and not a dream; but it could’ve been either. It was written during a time when things were really bad for Christians, during a great persecution. I’m sure there were a lot of Christians that thought that this was the end, when Jesus was going to return. Blessed is he who reads (not everyone had a Bible like today’s Christian) and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. Some of the things were near to our way of thinking, but others still have not happened, and that was 2000 years ago when John wrote this. First some words about things that were “near“. John to the seven churches that are in Asia (my Bible says they were about 50 miles apart): grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits (we see something in the book of Zachariah chapter 4 that seems to be about these spirits) who are before His throne. Many translations have the word “spirits“ capitalized implying that it refers to the Holy Spirit. Seeing that capitalization and assuming it is referring to the Holy Spirit, many say that it should be translated the seven fold spirit, not seven individual ones. There is nothing definitive that says it is referring to the Holy Spirit. After all, angels are ministering spirits, and so it could be four angels or some other type of spirit that we know nothing about. They are referred to more than once in the book of Revelation. Father continue to bless and take care of the reader and his/her family.
