I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead

Good morning. Now we come to the church in Sardis (it was a city of great wealth and fame): He who has the seven Spirits of God (we talked about this in chapter 1) and the seven stars, says this: I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. One of the worst things for a church is to be thought of as doing great deeds for God, when in fact as a church you are dead. It’s not what you do, but who you are that matters. If you are who you are supposed to be, you will do what you’re supposed to do. So what does God tell them? Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain; which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. When they started out, they were doing great things; but they have slacked off and have not finished what God had for them to do. God’s remedy – remember what you have received and heard; and keep it; and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. God had not totally abandoned them. There was a way for them to rectify their behavior. Jesus talked about the Son of Man coming like a thief. Father help us to not ever think that we have arrived and have done all that we need to do. Help us to be sensitive to Your Holy Spirit when He tells us where we are lacking.
