That He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle

Good morning. Why did Christ give Himself up for the church? So that He might sanctify her (set her apart as holy unto Himself), having cleansed by the washing of the water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot (no one wants to wear clothes with spots in them, unless it is to work in the yard) or wrinkle (and no one wants to wear clothes that are perfectly clean, but have wrinkles all in them) or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless (in 1:4, He chose us to be holy and blameless). He didn’t want us to just have our fire insurance. He wanted a perfect bride for Himself. Similarly: so husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. Jesus laid aside any desires that would be for Himself in order that the church might be made perfect. Even so, husbands should lay aside their selfish desires for the good of their wives. Father thank You that Jesus did all that we might be holy and blameless. Help us to maintain that throughout all our lives.
