The Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus

Good morning. Today we begin Second Thessalonians. Paul usually starts his letters by saying something positive about the ones to whom he is writing. We ought always to give thanks to God for you because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows even greater. We speak proudly of you for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecution and afflictions which you endure. It is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. It sounds like Paul is taking up right where he left off in First Thessalonians. The Lord Jesus being revealed from heaven sounds like the Rapture (which we talked about before); dealing out retribution to those who do not know God sounds like the great tribulation (though from what we will see next time, this could be the final judgment). Whatever the case, I’m sure they would want the relief from affliction to occur immediately, not in the future. Father continue to go with the reader and his/her family. Meet all of their needs spirit, soul, and body.
