Therefore select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.

 Good morning. When we think about the early church, we tend to think that everybody was perfect; they knew all there was to know about the Christian life; and everything was love and harmony. But in reality that was not the case – it was O.J.T. Now at this time while the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint arose on the part of the Hellenistic Jews (they were born outside of Israel and spoke the Greek language) against the native Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. In the Christian life, this is where the rubber meets the road. It’s easy to be spiritual when miracles are happening daily. It’s much harder to be spiritual when we have to interact with other believers. Of course today they would be accused of being racist. So the 12 summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, it is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. Just like in churches today, especially smaller ones, the pastor is expected to do everything. Therefore select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. Delegation of authority is always important. Notice that it says they were to be put in charge of the task. It did not say that they were to do the task; however, it would mean there were a lot of widows if it took more than seven people to do the task. At this point, it does not say that they were to do anything other than this. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word. That is what Pastors are supposed to do. They are not supposed to get caught up in the daily taking care of the church and having to neglect the spiritual aspect of the position. Father help us to get everything done that needs to be done ✅ . Help us to be able to spend quality time with our families.

  Good morning. But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. “And do not fear their intimidation and do not be troubled”. In Greek, the word “if“ has different degrees of significance unlike in English. My Bible says that in the Greek, this conditional clause (if you should suffer…) is the furthest removed from stating a reality. Suffering for righteousness is a remote possibility, but even if it does occur, it brings special blessing to the sufferer. All Christians wrestle with the question, “should I share the gospel with this person or not?“ The following verse tells us how we should do it: sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence. To those, who are chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, and by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with His blood

  Good morning. Today we begin with I Peter. Peter identifies himself as an apostle of Jesus. There was only one, so we know who is writing. To those who reside as aliens (believers are aliens to this world), scattered throughout (different places), who are chosen (we didn’t earn it) according to the foreknowledge (this comes from the same Greek word from which we get the medical term prognosis) of God the Father, and by the sanctifying work of the Spirit (this shows that the third Person of the Trinity is also involved), to obey Jesus Christ (which we are incapable of doing without being sanctified) and be sprinkled with His blood (all articles of worship in the tabernacle and then in the temple were sprinkled with the blood of animals – we are sprinkled with the blood of Jesus): may grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure.
