But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake
Good morning. But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. It makes it seem like Paul had a choice of whether to live or to die. Would any one of us choose to die? They probably would if things were going horribly wrong in their lives, but not if things were going along fine. But it wasn’t because he was in prison, that Paul was considering which to choose. He had been there before and had been beaten many times. Of course in the natural, one would get to the point where he or she could not keep on keeping on. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ (he said something similar in second Corinthians chapter 5), for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. We would say, “who cares?; I am out for what’s best for me”. Father while we are in the flesh, help us to live our lives so that others may come to know You. Continue to help the reader and his/her family.
