For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus
Good morning. Continuing the thought about those who had fallen asleep... For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. (Of course we believe that Jesus died and rose again) They did not die and are gone forever. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord (nowhere is it recorded in the gospels that Jesus said the following, though Jesus did appear to Paul more than once and may have said it, or perhaps this is through a prophecy by someone), that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. By using the word “we“, Paul was not saying that he would still be alive when Jesus returned. Since they were concerned about their loved ones who had fallen asleep, Paul wanted to make it clear what would not happen: that the believers still alive would be taken up, while those who had fallen asleep would stay asleep till the end of the millennium, or perhaps forever. Next time we will see how it will happen when Jesus returns. Father thank You that we can know that we will see our loved ones once again who have gone home to be with You.
