Do not be amazed that I said to you; you must be born again
Good morning. We are still with Nick at night 😇. Do not be amazed that I said to you
(singular); you (plural) must
be born again. So Jesus was not just talking to Nicodemus alone. Everyone must
be born again. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but
do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is
born of the Spirit. How can these things be? Are you the teacher of Israel and
do not understand these things? There is in the Greek a definite article “the”
in front of the word teacher; so he was not just any old teacher of Israel. I
don’t know if that applied to just one person, or to several. In either case, I
infer that that meant Nicodemus was not a young person. He had probably been in
Jerusalem during many Passovers, especially the one where the 12-year-old Jesus
was in the temple asking questions and answering the spiritual leaders. That
was almost 20 years before; so he probably would not have been the teacher of
Israel at that time. Jesus would have made an impression on him though. We
speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept
our testimony. If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will
you believe if I tell you heavenly things? Jesus was always using earthly
things to help explain heavenly ones. No one has ascended into heaven, but He
who descended from heaven; the Son of Man. Father thank You that The Son of Man
descended from heaven to bring us eternal life. Go with the reader today. Guide
and direct his/her path today where You want him/her to go. Provide him/her
with everything he/she needs.
