For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; and He gave Him authority to execute judgement because He is the Son of Man.

Good morning. Hi ho hi ho it’s off to work we go. For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself; and He gave Him authority to execute judgement because He is the Son of Man. If He had not given judgment to Jesus as the Son of Man, people would say how can God judge us - He doesn’t know what it’s like to be human? But Jesus, as man, did know what it was like to be human; and He was able to keep the law with perfection. Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to resurrection of judgment. Notice the difference between this verse and the verse we talked about yesterday. Both said “an hour is coming“, but the one yesterday also added “and now is“. That sounded more imminent than this one does. That one said that those who hear will live. That implies that some would not hear. In this one, all hear and all come forth. Some come forth to life, and some to judgment. One possible explanation is that the one yesterday was not talking about the Rapture, but rather about when Jesus died and rose from the dead. Ephesians speaks about Jesus descending down into the lower parts of the earth, and Peter talks about Him making proclamation to the spirits “now in prison”. Matthew even talks about when Jesus died that the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised and came out of the tombs after His resurrection and appeared to many. So perhaps that is what the verse yesterday was talking about. Father help the reader to have a great day at work. Help him/her to keep having wonderful memories of his/her last vacation trip.
