I hope it is a good
morning for you. They take Jesus to Caiaphas, the high priest. Peter follows
Him at a distance. He goes into the courtyard of the high priest and sits down.
The chief priest and the whole Council kept trying to obtain false testimony
against Jesus, in order that they might put Him to death. There was no
agreement among the witnesses until two of them said that Jesus said He was
able to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in three days. They needed
the agreement of two or three witnesses in order to convict Jesus. On its own
that statement would be ridiculous today. Today He would more likely be thrown
into the loony bin instead of being killed. No sane person would think that he
could destroy the temple, much less rebuild it in only three days. The high
priest tried to get Jesus to answer the charges against Him. He wanted Jesus to
say something he could use against Him. Finally the high priest said “I adjure
You by the living God that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of
God.” You have said it yourself; nevertheless I tell you, hereafter you shall
see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds
of heaven. That got the high priest so upset that he tore his robes. He has
blasphemed! What do you think? He is deserving of death! Jesus had to be
crucified for us. It looked like He might get off without being killed. Whether
it was because of that, or as some have said the way in which the high priest
asked the question forced Jesus to answer, Jesus responded as He did. He had
not publicly been proclaiming Himself to be the Christ. Before this point, it
was not the time to do so. Father thank You that Jesus professed the good
confession. Because of His answer, He was crucified for me. Thank You for
protection during and after the storm. Help the reader and his/her family in
whatever they need – supply it quickly.
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
