Good
morning. Jesus then tells Mary to go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend
to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God. So she went to the
disciples and said, I have seen the Lord, and that He had said these things to
her. John does not say that they did not believe her, but other Gospels do.
However, Peter and John would have told them that they had seen the empty tomb
and the linen wrappings. So when it was evening on that day, the first day of
the week (Sunday, normally a work day for the Jews; but this was Passover, so I
do not know if people were working that day or not; however the disciples would
not be working), and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for
fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, peace
be with you. You better believe He should say peace be with you. The door was
shut, and no one opened it for Him. Despite what Peter, John, and Mary have
said, they probably still did not believe that He was risen. Luke says that
they thought they were seeing a ghost. And when He had said this, He showed
them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the
Lord. Luke says that Jesus said see My hands and feet. I do know not know why
they differ. Perhaps it was because Luke talked to a different witness. Or
perhaps it is because in John, Jesus’ side will play an important part later on
with Thomas. Father, go ahead of the reader and prepare his/her way. Make his/her
path smooth
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
