Good morning. To the Jews there were a lot of things that
were considered unclean. I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing
is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it
is unclean. He is talking about food here; but it could apply to other things
for Christians. In today’s world, there are some things that are in a gray area
– are they OK, or are they sin? There are some things that come to mind, but
I’m not going to mention them because I don’t want to get your dander up 🤗
. If you think they are wrong, then it is wrong for you to do them. Then
there are some things that you believe they are OK to do, but if a fellow
Christian sees or knows that you do them, they might take offense, because they
believe they are wrong. For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no
longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom
Christ died. Again we are not talking about food here, but rather those things
which some believe are right and some believe are wrong. If you know your
fellow believer thinks it’s wrong, you do not flaunt your acceptance of it in
his or her face. However if you believe it’s right, you should not have to give
it up simply because someone disagrees with you. Otherwise, we will go back to
the olden days where you couldn’t do anything. Father help us to always do
things in love, thinking of others and not just ourselves. Help the reader to
get everything done that he/she needs to.
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church. Some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. I shall find ou...
