He who is the blessed and only sovereign, the king of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light,
Good morning. Paul has just digressed so that you don’t realize that he’s referring to God, and not Jesus, when he says the next part: He who is the blessed and only sovereign, the king of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen (that reminds us of what John said in his gospel and confirms that it is the Father) or can see. To Him be eternal dominion! Back to his admonition against desiring to be rich: instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Sadly that is what Christians in today’s society do. If they have a good job, they don’t rely on God to supply their needs; they rely on their employer. If they have good healthcare, they don’t rely on God to heal them, they rely on their doctor and their medical plan. Too many things can happen to cause you to lose both of those or any money that you have stored up. Father help us to keep our trust in You, and not in the riches of this world.
