Good morning. So now everyone is
stirred up over Jesus and His words. Some said that He was the Prophet; others
the Christ. Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?
Scriptures say that the Christ will come from the descendants of David and from
Bethlehem.
They did not realize that both
were true of Jesus. Remember that the chief priests and the Pharisees had sent
officers to seize Him. They returned and said never has a man spoken in the way
this man speaks. The Pharisees replied, no one of the rulers or Pharisees has
believed in Him, has he? This was not true because Nicodemus had come to Jesus.
He then tries to speak up for Jesus. Our law does not judge a man unless it
first hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it? You are not also from
Galilee, are you? Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee. My
Bible says that they are mistaken because Jonah came from Galilee and perhaps
others as well. There is a dispute that the story about the woman caught in
adultery may not have belonged originally to the Gospel of John. There are
certain places where it seems to be stuck in there. Nevertheless, it does seem
like something that Jesus would have done. Now everyone went to his home, but
Jesus went to the mount of olives. Early in the morning He came again to the
temple and sat down and began to teach. The scribes and Pharisees brought a
woman caught in adultery and said, teacher, this woman has been caught in
adultery, in the very act. In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women;
what then do You say? They were trying to find reasons to accuse Jesus of doing
something wrong. We’ll see next time what Jesus did and said. Father thank You
that You are in control of everything that happens. Help us to listen carefully
and to hear what You are trying to say to us that we should do.
