Good morning. Now
what did Jesus do when the scribes and Pharisees asked Him about stoning the
woman caught in adultery? He stooped down and with His finger wrote on the
ground. There has been much speculation about what He wrote, but no one knows
for sure. Whatever it was, it was not sufficient to make them stop because they
persisted in asking Him. He who is without sin among you, let him be the first
to throw a stone at her. He again stooped down and wrote on the ground. When
they heard what He said, they begin to go out beginning with the older ones,
and He was left alone with the woman. Where are they? Did no one condemn you?
No one, Lord. Neither do I. Go and sin no more. The next verse shows why that
episode seems out of place. Then Jesus again spoke to them… To whom was He
speaking – they had all left? He had been talking to the people about the
rivers of living water. The officers had returned and reported to the scribes
and Pharisees. So what follows seems to be back again with Jesus talking to the
people. He goes from talking about the living water to – I am the Light of the
world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light
of life. Jesus used many metaphors to refer to Himself. Just like you can use
your cell phone to download an app that will mimic a Flashlight to show you
where you’re going, Jesus will shine a light on your path to show you where you
are going. Father thank You that Jesus is the Light, not just of the world in
general, but to us specifically. Shine Your Light on the reader’s path to show him/her
the way he/she should go.
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
