Good morning. Now [before] the feast of the Passover, Jesus
knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the
Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. I
bracketed the word “before” to emphasize that it does not say during the feast.
During supper: notice that it does not say during the Passover meal. People
have said various things to try to make these verses and the ones that follow
to agree with the other gospels that this was the Passover meal. Some have said
that this was referring to the Passover meal, and others that they ate something
prior to the Passover meal; which to me does not make sense. Back to John:
during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas to betray
Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and
that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, got up from supper,
and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. He then
began to wash the disciples’ feet. When He came to Peter, Peter said to Him,
Lord, do You wash my feet? What I do you do not realize now, but you will
understand hereafter. Never shall you wash my feet! Washing someone’s feet was
the most menial of menial jobs, and was normally done by slaves. Many times
people were just given a container of water so that they could wash their own
feet. If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me. If having his feet washed
by Jesus meant that he had a part with Jesus, Peter wanted to have even more of
a part with Jesus. Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head. He
who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you
are clean, but not all of you. When we get saved and then come in contact with
the things of the world and even sin, we don’t need to get saved all over
again, we just need to “wash our feet“. Father, go with the reader’s family and
quickly make them completely well. Help the reader to know what You want him/her
to do. Give him/her peace of mind.
Unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
Good morning. While Jesus was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. Jesus was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men. Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. It doesn’t say, but I assume it is still during this time of the Passover. This man came to Jesus by night. Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do the signs that You do unless God is with him. It just said that the people believed in His name because of the signs He was doing; yet it does not say what those signs were. Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. That is why unbelievers cannot tell what is of the kingdom of God and what is not – they’re not born again. Nicodemus doesn’t have a clue. How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he? Unless one is born of water and the Spirit ...
