Good morning. Paul mentions several items that
if they make sounds only, what good will that be? So also you, unless you utter
by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For
you will be speaking into the air. If I then do not know the meaning of the
language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks
will be a barbarian to me. He’s talking about using a learned language that the
hearers do not understand. So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual
gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church. Therefore let one who
speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. The whole purpose of a church
service is to glorify God and to edify the body of believers. If you are
speaking in your “prayer language”, out loud in a church service, you’ll be
edified, but not the church. Father give the reader wisdom to help his/her family
member. We know that You can make everything to work out for the good to those
who believe and are called according to Your purpose
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church.
