Abram was 75 years old when he departed from Haran
Good morning. Last time Abram received this great promise from God. So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him; and Lot went with him. Abram was 75 years old when he departed from Haran. How many of us would have argued with God first before we went? He was already at “retirement“ age, but he was just getting started. Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew, and all their possessions which they had accumulated, and the persons which they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan; thus they came to the land of Canaan. [My Bible says that wealthy people in that ancient world always had servants to help them with their flocks and herds. Not all servants were slaves; many were voluntarily employed.] The word acquired and things that happened later seem to imply that some were slaves. In today’s world, that would mean that we should “cancel“ Abraham. But of course we’re not going to. Father thank You that Abram obeyed You without question. Help us to be the same way.
