Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; your reward shall be very great

Good morning. After Abram trusted God to recover his nephew Lot along with Lot’s possessions and met with Melchizedek, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; your reward shall be very great. Abram had a lot of possessions, which was great; but especially in those days not having a son to inherit everything was a great disappointment. One would rather have very little and have a son, than to be very rich and not have a son. O Lord God, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus (it is possible that this is the servant that went to seek a wife for Isaac)? Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir. [My Bible says that documents demonstrate that a childless man could adopt one of his own male servants to be heir and guardian of his estate.] What about Sarai? In those days, women did not have the rights that they do today. Abram would just have to trust Eliezer to take care of her. Tomorrow we will see what God replied. No matter how hopeless things look today, God You have a plan to take care of us in everything.
