Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan

Good morning. Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah. That would mean that Milcah was Nahor’s niece. Sarai was barren; she had no child. Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran (Abram’s brother), his grandson, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran, and settled there. [My Bible says that in Hebrew the name of the town is spelled differently from that of Abram’s brother.]  In Acts chapter 7, Stephen says that God appeared to Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia and told him to take his relatives and come to the land that He would show him. So they were going in the direction that God called Abraham – Canaan. Who knows, if his father had made it to the land of Canaan, Abraham may never have received the promises of God. Father thank You that if we are going in the direction that You tell us to go, we can still make it even if there are diversions along the way.
