The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord

Good morning. After His baptism, Jesus, being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness. Matthew also said He was led by the Holy Spirit; Mark says He was impelled by the Holy Spirit. Luke then goes through the temptations of Jesus by the devil. After resisting the temptations, Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit. He went to His hometown of Nazareth; went to the synagogue on the Sabbath; and stood up to read. They gave Him the book of Isaiah, and He found the place where it was written: The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me; because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. That was a very bold statement, because it applied to the Messiah. After all He was the hometown boy. He was just Joseph’s boy. He had no formal training. How could He speak like this? Father thank You that Your anointing is upon us. We walk in the power and might of Your Spirit and the Scriptures.
