For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard

Good morning. Referring to the children of Israel and God’s promise of entering the promised land: for indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. It’s not just the Word, and it’s not just faith – it takes the uniting of both of them. The word translated united is the same one that is used to describe the making of a compound. A compound is when you take two completely different items like carbon and iron and combine them under heat and pressure to make steel. It is not an entirely new element, but you cannot tell where the iron leaves off and the carbon begins. Iron by itself is strong; but combined with carbon under heat and pressure it makes steel. At the time it was discovered, it was the most powerful substance used in building. The same thing happens in the uniting of the Word of God and faith. You cannot tell where one leaves off and the other begins. Each by itself is powerful; but united they form an indestructible combination. Father help us to combine our faith with Your Word to form an indestructible force.
