Good morning. From Isaiah
a quote: Behold I leave in Zion a choice stone, a precious cornerstone, and he
who believes in Him shall not be disappointed. This precious value then, is for
you who believe. But for those who disbelieve, "The stone which the builders
rejected. This became the very cornerstone - a stone of stumbling and a rock of
offense". The cornerstone was laid so as to give strength to the two walls
with which they were connected. One may carelessly stumble over the cornerstone
when turning the corner. Jesus holds it all together. And yet many stumble over
Him. They say it's not Jesus only – there are many ways to get to God and
heaven. For they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this
doom they were also appointed. If you don't believe the truth, you will believe
a lie. And now a contrast: but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a
holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the
excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light. Just like with the children of Israel – God did not take them out of
Egypt just to leave them high and dry. He took them out in order to bring them
into the promised land. He did not just take us out of darkness to leave us
high and dry. He took us out in order to bring us into the marvelous light of
His kingdom. That is His plan for you. He is not just going to bring you out of
darkness; He is going to bring you into the marvelous light of His kingdom. One
stumbles in the darkness; but you will be able to see everything clearly and
will no longer stumble.
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church. Some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. I shall find ou...
