Good morning. Peter says,
hey all this stuff about Jesus wasn't just something I heard from someone who
made it all up. For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known
to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses
of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such
an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My
beloved Son with whom I am well pleased." And we ourselves heard this
utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. No one
had to convince Peter that Jesus was God's Son. He heard it for himself. And so
we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay
attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the
morning star arises in your hearts. The word is all that is needed to bring us
to the point where we believe that Jesus is God's Son. We cannot all hear a
word from heaven to convince us that He is. Nor can we put our hands into His
side like Thomas wanted to do. We believe because of the Holy Spirit operating
through the word of God. If one believes simply because of some
"sign" from heaven, then when bad things happen, we lose our
confidence in what we believe. We begin to doubt the sign. It didn't really
happen, we think. Our confidence has to be in the word of God which will never
fail us. Father thank You that the reader believes because of Your word. He/she
stands firm against all that opposes You.
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
