Good morning. Well today
is the day we been waiting for/dreading (Election Day, Nov 8, 2016). My guess
is that we won't know who won by the time I go to bed. A lot of people have
been predicting this or that; candidates have tried this and that; but God says
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I
will set aside". Actually that is where we pick up in the book of
Corinthians. Where is the wise man? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the
world? As we talked about before, man's wisdom won't cut it. Since in the
wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was
well please through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who
believe. You see it so much in the academic world; all of those professors
thinking that through their wisdom they know all about God. They have put God
in a box, and they know all about Him. We preach Christ crucified, to Jews a
stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Paul is talking about Christ
dying on the cross for us being the wisdom of God. (We will refer back to this
at the end of chapter 1). Because the foolishness of God (Christ dying on the
cross) is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. Not
many of you were wise, mighty, nor noble. God has chosen the things that are
not, that He might nullify the things that are, that no man should boast before
God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from
God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption. This is where we go
back to that previous verse that I mentioned. This is where some Christians say
that because we have Christ Jesus, therefore we have wisdom. We do have wisdom
because we have Christ, but that's not what this is talking about. It is
talking about God's wisdom of Christ crucified, by which we obtain salvation.
Through God's foolishness and our believing we became wise. Father thank You
that the reader has Your wisdom. He/she is mighty in You. Father move mountains
that Your will be done in this election. Heal our nation and bring us closer to
You. No matter what happens, You are still in control.
When considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even the fast was already over, Paul began to admonish them to not continue, because he perceived that not only would there be a loss of the cargo but also of their lives.
Good morning. When it was decided that we would sail for Italy, they proceeded to deliver Paul and some other prisoners to a centurion. Notice that “we“ returns. Luke has not been mentioned during the entire two years that Paul was at Caesarea. I guess it is safe to assume that he was in the area during this time. We will leave out the names of a bunch of places where they passed. They had sailed for a good many days and began to have trouble with the wind. This was a warning of what was about to happen. When considerable time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, since even the fast (Day of Atonement) was already over, Paul began to admonish them to not continue, because he perceived that not only would there be a loss of the cargo but also of their lives. The centurion was more persuaded by the pilot and the captain of the ship than by what was being said by Paul. They did not want to get stuck for the winter in the port where they were located. They actually were only g...
