Good morning. We are back
in Proverbs. Speaking of wisdom: she is more precious than jewels; and nothing
you desire compares with her. You could have all kinds of money and items, but
if you don't have wisdom you are nothing and could lose everything. So what
does wisdom have? Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches
and honor. You want long life – get wisdom. As a bonus, you get riches and
honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree
of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who hold her fast.
Wisdom makes life worth living. Then you will walk in your way securely, and
your foot will not stumble. You don't need a hurry cane when you have wisdom.
You can walk without fear. Need a sleeping pill – not when you have wisdom.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will
be sweet. You don't have to stay awake at night tossing and turning. Do not be
afraid of sudden fear, nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes. I
don't mind awful looking monsters when I'm watching a movie, but I don't like
something or someone jumping out at the characters. Even though I have seen the
movie "wait until dark" several times, it still gets me when Alan
Arkin jumps out at Audrey Hepburn. And why should we not be afraid? For the
Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.
Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Do not withhold good
from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to
your neighbor, "go, and come back, and tomorrow I will give it," when
you have it with you. That sounds like James. If a brother or sister is without
clothing or in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, "go in
peace, be warmed and be filled," and yet you do not give them what is
necessary for their body, what use is that? Father thank You that the reader
has all the wisdom he/she needs. He/she will not stumble, and his/her sleep
will be sweet every night. He/she will not be afraid.
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church. Some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. I shall find ou...
