Good morning. Jesus said to them, come and have breakfast.
None of the disciples ventured to question Him, who are You? Knowing that it
was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish
likewise. This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the
disciples, after He was raised from the dead. By the way, there was nothing
that indicated how long it was between the time that Jesus appeared to them and
showed them His hands and side and this instance at the sea of Galilee. Have
you ever thought about where was Jesus between the time He rose from the dead,
then appeared to Mary, later to the disciples, and then until the Sea? Where
would you be during all this time? Remember the scene at the cross; and then
you have been dead three days; the moment you arise, where would you go? I
don’t know where Jesus was, but if it had been I who had been raised from the
dead, I would’ve immediately gone and let my mother and family know that I was
alive. Now we come to Jesus’ discussion with Peter. So when they had finished
breakfast, Jesus said to Peter, Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than
these? The Greek word that John used here for love is the one that means the
love of God, agape. I seriously doubt that Jesus spoke to Peter in Greek – it
was probably Aramaic. He probably used the Aramaic word for love of God. Most
likely that was a perplexing question for Peter – it was unheard of for a human
to have the love of God. When Jesus asked him do you love Me more than these,
did He mean did Peter love Him more than the other disciples loved (with the
love of God) Him? Peter responded with, yes, Lord; You know that I love You.
The Greek word for love that John used here was the one for brotherly love
(phileo) – not the love of God. We will finish this next time. Father thank You
that You love the reader with a love unbelievable. You desire the best for him/her
even more than he/she does.
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
