Good morning. Now Jesus tells Peter: truly, truly, I say to
you, when you were younger, you used to gird yourself and walk wherever you
wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and someone else
will gird you, and bring you where you do not wish to go. Of course that
happens to elderly people today; that is not what He was talking about. Many
believe that Jesus was saying that Peter would be imprisoned and led to
crucifixion. Tradition says that Peter was crucified upside down; that he said
he was not worthy to be crucified right side up like his Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ. Now He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.
And when He had spoken thus, He said to him; follow Me! Of course Peter said,
thanks for the info Jesus – not! He did exactly like we would do if someone
told us we would have a horrible future. Peter, turning around, saw the
disciple whom Jesus loved following them. So Peter seeing him, said to Jesus,
Lord, what about this man? He tries to deflect and turn the attention to
someone else – is he going to have a bad future too? If I want him to remain
until I come, what is that do you? You follow Me! Therefore this saying went
out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say
to him that he would not die, but only, if I want him to remain until I come,
what is that do you? Take care of your own little red wagon. This is the
disciple (most believe John) who is testifying to these things and wrote these
things, and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other
things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that
even the world itself would not contain books that would be written. This is
similar to what John wrote at the end of chapter 20, after Jesus appeared the
second time in the upper room. He did not include everything that Jesus did;
only enough so that people would believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of
God! Father thank You that showed us (through the Gospel of John) the love of
Jesus – that He gave up everything to die on the cross to save us!
So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed
Good morning. We left John at the entrance of the tomb, stooping and looking in. “Shy” Peter then arrives following John, and enters the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there. So the other disciple, John, who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. It does not say whether or not Peter believed. For as yet they did not understand the scripture, that He must rise again from the dead. So the disciples went away again to their own homes. I’m not exactly sure what it means by their own homes. They were originally from Galilee and would not have had homes in Jerusalem. Perhaps it means the homes where they were staying while in Jerusalem. Apparently, they were not staying in the upper room, or it would have said so. But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped (just like John) and looked into the tomb. She saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been l...
