Good morning. Now we have come to the day of Pentecost. When
the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. First of
all, we do not know how long it had been since they cast lots for the
replacement apostle. It could not have been too long because it was only 10
days from the day that Jesus ascended, to the day of Pentecost. My Bible says
that it literally means when the day of Pentecost was being fulfilled. Jesus
dying on the cross was the fulfillment of Passover - His blood saving us like
the blood of the Passover lambs on the first Passover. Pentecost is also called
the feast of weeks, the feast of the harvest, and the day of first fruits. All
of these came about on this day. Now it does not say that it was the upper room
– just that they were in one place. Most people agree that it was the upper
room – I’m not sure that it makes any difference. It also does not say who
“they“ were. Most people believe that it was the 120. The only ones that we
know for sure that it is talking about are the apostles – which we will see
later. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind,
and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. This seems to confirm
the belief that it was the house where the upper room was located. By the way,
notice it says that they were setting. It takes a lot more space for 120 people
to sit than it does for them to stand. Perhaps some were in the upper room, and
the rest of the 120 were inside the other parts of the house. And of course it
says a sound like a violet rushing wind – not the wind itself, filled the whole
house. In the end, they were exactly where God wanted them to be when He wanted
them to be there. We will see next time what happened after this. Father help
us to be exactly where You want us to be at the exact time You want us to be
there. Help us to be sensitive to the guidance of Your Holy Spirit.
Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me
Good morning. Paul then gives a list of a lot of things that he has gone through as an apostle. I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. There could be many people that you listen to either in church or through the Internet or other means; but there was only one person (as a general rule it was a person) that lead you to Christ. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me. He was saying that just like a child imitates his or her father, they were to imitate him. He says that again seven chapters later. Since it is easy to forget some things about people we have not seen in a while, Paul says that he sent Timothy to them to remind them of his ways which are in Christ, just as he taught everywhere in every church. Some have become arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. I shall find ou...
