Good morning. Today we are
in Hebrews chapter 2. For this reason we must pay closer attention to what we
have heard, lest we drift away from it. Just sitting in church on Sunday
morning listening to the word is not enough. It can go in one ear and out the
other without pausing in between. It's too easy to only hear what we want to
hear. The word is a mirror showing what's inside of us. So if the words spoken
through angels proved unalterable (speaking of the Old Testament), and every
transgression and disobedience received a just recompense, how shall we escape
if we neglect so great a salvation? Sometimes people get too comfortable in
their salvation. It's not just a bunch of words as the rest of the verse
proclaims: "After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was
confirmed to us by those who heard". This wasn't just some man or woman
that spoke the words. It was the Lord Jesus Christ! If He said it, we should do
it. God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various
miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will. The
unbelievers needed signs to convince them; but we are already convinced - we
just need to do what God's Word says. Father help the reader to pay close
attention to what he/she has heard. Help him/her to not neglect this great
salvation; but rather to show forth that salvation every day of his/her life.
Unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
Good morning. While Jesus was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. Jesus was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men. Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. It doesn’t say, but I assume it is still during this time of the Passover. This man came to Jesus by night. Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do the signs that You do unless God is with him. It just said that the people believed in His name because of the signs He was doing; yet it does not say what those signs were. Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. That is why unbelievers cannot tell what is of the kingdom of God and what is not – they’re not born again. Nicodemus doesn’t have a clue. How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he? Unless one is born of water and the Spirit ...
