Good morning. Today were
looking at the Gospel of John. I love the Gospel of John – you feel like you're
right there with Jesus. The other Gospels are like they are just simply
reporting what happened. John likes to use what is known as the historical
present. He uses present tense verbs to talk about things that happened in the past.
The difference would be like some joke that started: A man went into a bar and
said to the bartender ... versus A man goes into a bar and says to the
bartender ... In the second, you feel like you're right there in the bar with
them. One of the most powerful verses in the Bible: in the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And then verse two: He
was in the beginning with God. Here we are again with infinity in the past.
When the beginning came, the Word and God we're already there. Before time was
– God is. Remember that in Greek when you say something is something else, it
does not necessarily mean they are the same. It does not mean that Jesus and
the Father were the same when it says that the Word was God. That was one of the
heresies from 1000 years ago. Also the first verse means that Jesus was not
created, which of course is another heresy. Verse three emphasizes this: all
things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that
has come into being. Jesus did not come into being, because He always was. Of
course this is really impossible for us human beings to truly understand. In
Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. We are in Him who is life,
and this life is in us. Today just like then the world is in darkness and they
do not comprehend the light. Father thank You that Your life and light are in
the reader. Wherever he/she goes, Your light and life will shine through him/her
and the world will see and know that You are God in him/her.
Unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God
Good morning. While Jesus was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. Jesus was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men. Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. It doesn’t say, but I assume it is still during this time of the Passover. This man came to Jesus by night. Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do the signs that You do unless God is with him. It just said that the people believed in His name because of the signs He was doing; yet it does not say what those signs were. Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. That is why unbelievers cannot tell what is of the kingdom of God and what is not – they’re not born again. Nicodemus doesn’t have a clue. How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he? Unless one is born of water and the Spirit ...
